Years ago when there were no big supermarkets or convenience stores,we had in Costa Rica what we called Comisariatos. They were a mix of a market, hardware store, normally had the only public phone in town and were the place to hang out every afternoon after work.
Joaquín León (Manuel León´s father) opened the warehouse in the 50´s and he used to sell clothes, fabric, medicines and people from Manzanillo to Suretka came to buy their groceries and whatever they need.
In 1970, Joaquín died and Manuel and his wife, Delfina hereby the store and re-named it to ¨Comisariato Manuel León Salazar¨
Since then, this a joint of locals and tourists, people talking and history all over the place!
